Our History

The oldest building in the Village of Cobleskill, The Bull's Head Inn was the gathering place for farmers, merchants and travellers in the early 1800's.

George Ferster came to New York State's Schoharie Valley in 1752 and built a home near the Cobleskill Creek. Tories and Indians twice burned the building during the Revolution, and twice Ferster rebuilt it with his own hands. The last time, however, he made it into a tavern, and later sold it to German immigrant, Lambert Lawyer, who turned it back into a home.

During Lawyer's tenancy the building burned again. Around 1802, Seth Wakeman rebuilt and enlarged the house, and then reopened it as "The Bull's Head Inn." The Inn was also used as a town hall, a courthouse, and a public meeting place before 1839.

Current owner, Anthony Giammettei purchased the Bull's Head inn in 2008 and completely restored the upstairs dining and banquet rooms as well as the Cellar Pub.
